I Wanna ROCK!

Doing What We Want to Do

I did not grow up in a “church going” family. I have no recollection of us ever going to a worship service together, even at Christmas.  My folks were not anti God we just didn’t go. We celebrated Easter and Christmas but not for the same reasons as Christians.

So I have a different mindset toward the holidays, church attendance and most things that fall under the religion umbrella – including our gifts and talents. I grew up during the era where we were taught that if we believed we could do something – then by golly – you could do it.

He Made Me This Way

lostCONFUSION

I am not 100% sure of what I want to say. Not right now. Not at this very moment but overall. I am not sure what I want this blog to be about or who I am directing it toward. What its purpose is or will become.

Random thoughts about life and theology? No, not really. Though that seems to be what I do the most. But I don’t wake up every day thinking “OK, I wanna drop some theology on people today.”

Comic thoughts, ideas and musings? Well, I do claim to be a comedian but that does not come out in my writing. So, no, I guess not.  Though I would not be unhappy if that didn’t start happening – stay tuned.

All mistakes according to those in the blogging “know”.

Don’t Fear Satan’s Lies – Yeah, That’s the Ticket!

Satan’s Not So Greatest Lie

liesLast year, I wrote a post titled “Satan’s Greatest Lie,” Jeremy Myers, at ‘Till He Comes.org was nice enough to publish it for me.

I mused about how Satan tricks us with the idea that we have more time than we think and how we can always do tomorrow what we should do today.  You can read it here.

I have been doing some thinking – dangerous – and a lot of reading and I no longer think that the time issue is his “greatest” lie. I started thinking about all the lies that we are told and shamefully – even Christians – fall for. He is, after all, the Father of lies.

Memorial Day, Jarheads and Jesus

Last Soldier and crossMonday Americans observed Memorial Day. The day we celebrate those  that have given their lives in defense of our freedoms as Americans and in support of our way of life. These brave men and women, knowing the potential danger – knowing  their lives were at stake signed a piece of paper and in essence said “yes, I am willing to die for my country.” To be fair, this is admission of anyone that joins the military of their respective country – voluntarily or not – so feel free to applaud your men and women too.

Satan Did NOT Tempt Jesus in the Wilderness

I believe everything the Bible says.  I believe you can trust it in its entirety.

Yes, I am a “the Bible says it, I believe it and that settles it” kind of guy.tempt apple

I try not to portion out what’s easy to believe and turn my eyes away from the really hard stuff, the unpopular stuff; the stuff that’s easy to dismiss as either too antiquated or implausible.

My friend Sammy has a great blog  – check it out here – and has been nice enough to allow me to guest post.

The post is called “Change the Way You Think” and it is in line with the stuff I have been writing recently. Please check it out and leave some comments.

While you’re there check out some of Sammy’s posts. Blending  his unique vision and wit Sammy captures life and presents it in a refreshing and enjoyable way. His blog has become a regular stop for me. I know you’ll enjoy his work as much as I do.

Thank you, as always, and please let me know what you think about “Change the Way You Think“.

Baseball, Believers and Values

damon  In baseball, well sports in general, most teams have a certain way they approach things. Some teams pay particular attention to hitting, others pitching, most talk about fundamentals and getting the little things or “basics” right. This is usually referred to as the – since I live in the Tampa area I will pay homage to my home team first – “Ray’s” way or the “Buccaneer” way but I have also heard it called the “Steelers” way among others.

Billboards, Clouds and the Reality of Jesus

We cloudsall start off in basically the same way, as children watching other people live their lives.

We see all the things they do and make most of our life decisions based on what we see. We’re either motivated to do or not do what we’ve witnessed.

Like you, I saw things and made choices that have moved me through life to the point where I question everything, including my value as a person.

What To Do When You Don’t Know What to Do

When do you know it’s the right time to keep your mouth shut; when something is simply not your business?

When do you linger so close to what may be considered gossip that you find yourself looking for numbers of people you have not spoken to in months, perhaps years because you’re not sure what to do with what you know?

Dear Readers

You guys are why I do what I do. You are why I write. Sure I write for “me” but, and I thik this is true of anyone that puts words to paper – or screen, I want those words to be read. I want my words to be helpful, honest and from time to time humorous – OK, I want that one more often than not. Do I want you love my words and agree with everything I write – well of course I do – but here’s the thing:

I KNOW YOU WON’T and I am OK with that.
