You Can Trust the Bible

Not too long ago, I had a conversation about the importance of the Bible with regard to faith and salvation and I think I may have indicated that salvation could be obtained without the Bible.
I feel like I need to clarify what I meant to say and where I stand on that matter.
First, I believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant word of God.

 Period.
I believe that, “…all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works ( 2 TIM. 3:15-17 KJV ).
I believe the Bible is essential and irreplaceable in our walk with God.
We would be lost – literally – without it.
So, how do I square that with the fact that Abraham was “counted” as righteous not having even a copy of what we call the Old Testament?
Easy, he had the presence of God the Father. Yahweh spoke to him.  I AM was with him.
We don’t have that.  We have His word to guide us along with the Holy Spirit.
I also get that the early church did not have copies of the King James – new or old. They did not have the NIV, the Holman, the Message, the New Living or any of the other 100’s of versions we have access to today –
BUT they did have the Apostles.
They had direct access to the very inner circle of Jesus, the men chosen by Christ to walk with and learn from the Savior of the world.
The Son of God.
They had the WORD.  He taught them all they needed and through the Holy Spirit told them what to write down for future generations that would not have THEM to explain what Jesus meant.
Second, “How do you know” you ask, “the Bible we have today does not contain errors or was not mis-copied by any of the monks or typesetters throughout the centuries, huh explain that?”
OK, I can do that. I can do it in such a way that if ANYdoubt remains in your mind about the value, the authority or the trustworthiness of the Bible then I would suggest you reevaluate your relationship and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
And, I can do it in one word.
Ready? Are you ready for my one word answer to why I have ZERO doubt about putting 100% of my faith and trust in the Bible even as it exists today?
Are you sure? OK, here it is…
GOD.
There you have it. Did you guess that was where I was going?
Here’s the thing, as a Christ follower, I cannot accept that the God of the universe, the One that spoke the world into existence, created everything you see or ever will see and created you and me could not keep His word from being altered to the point where the meaning or message was compromised or corrupted. I cannot accept that he’d riskour salvation or our understanding of Him and who he says He is.
To think that He could not keep that from happening calls into question the validity of everything he said.
If you cannot trust the control he has on His WORD, how can you trust anything it says?
