About Mick

Mick Holt grew up “all over the map. ” His father was in the U.S Air Force which allowed Mick to see and experience more than most kids before he was 10 years old. Moving often, Mick learned early on that his use of humor was a way to bridge cultural and societal differences – though he did not know that was what he was doing – to frequently make new friends. Finally settling in the city of Tampa, Florida Mick first heard Bill Cosby’s “Wonderfulness” and knew that making people laugh – in some way – was in his future. Upon seeing the Robin Williams HBO Special “Robin, Live at the Met” Mick discovered the way he would make people laugh – stand-up comedy was his destiny.

Mick earned a degree in History from the University of South Florida in 2006. As a part of his classes he took a Stand-Up Comedy class which got him on stage and led to him ultimately excepting the call on his life to be a comedian. He spent nearly 16 years working the overnight shift – “The Yard” for a full production copy center.

Mick put comedy on hold while his lovely and talented wife underwent treatment for breast cancer – two times – over the next few years.

In November of 2014, Mick took to the stage for the first time in many years and was again engaged. He began attending all the open mics he could to perfect his act and make people laugh. He has been seen in several places around the Bay area including McCurdy’s Comedy Theater, Side Splitters, Gutterballs Comedy Cabaret and recently participated in a workshop showcase at The Tampa Improv.

Mick is fortunate to be married to the bravest and strongest woman on the planet and they have been blessed with one son.

Mick’s act is 100% clean and intended to be so to A) show that comedy does not have consist of “shock and awe” to be funny and 2) to honor God. Mick mostly tells stories about his childhood, relationship with his wife and son but does not shy away from pointing out the flaws in his character or physicality. He will even throw in his observances of the world around us.

Mick is a member of the Christian Comedy Association.
