God Wants You to be a Grunt – At Least for Now

I am better than this.

I deserve more.

I can do that.

I am…

I

These thoughts flow through my head ALL the time. It is a constant battle for me and I am sure they creep into your mind as well. At least from time to time.

I would love to tell you that I fend them off with the gallantry of a modern day knight. That I slay them like Lancelot would a dragon or like Superman leaping over a tall building but I don’t. No, I am more like Luke in the cave on Dagobah – I give in to the dark side and I do it without giving it a thought.

What does take effort is telling myself I am wrong. reminding  myself that this is not what Jesus said.

Jesus was always putting others ahead of himself – anyone remember the cross?

Jesus said the second most important commandment was to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

In that context ask, “Am I better than this?”

“Do I deserve more?”

“Can you do that?”

The answer may surprise you. In those cases the answer may well be “yes, yes I can.”  Then the question changes.

Is that what you’re here to do?

Not all of us can run the company. Not all of us are made, called or gifted to sing, act or speak. Some of us are needed to do the grunt work, to get dirty, to lift up the stage that others are standing on.

Being a grunt does not make you less than the person on the stage. God does not love you less.

In fact, God has elevated you to a place of great importance – think about this, if the stage does not go up the speaker and singer have no place to stand. THEY need you to do your job.

Is your J-O-B your dream? Maybe not – I know mine isn’t. But your J-O-B is preparing you FOR your dream.

It may be the case that your J-O-B is motivating you to pursue your dream. Pushing you to see that you don’t have to stay where you are but you may have to make more of an effort when you are not doing your J-O-B.

So, where are you  J-O-B or DREAM? OR somewhere in between? Leave a comment and let’s talk about it.

UMMMM This is great! Let my start by saying that I dont dislike my J-O-B, some of my co-workers…….MAYBE?? But, thinking about what you wrote, it makes me want more. It makes me wonder if i am building a big enough stage? Am I being all I can be? Perhaps I will go to my J-O-B tomorrow and strive to do my job better.. .. Thanks and my co-working will more than likely thank you as well.

How’d it go today? I generally have better days at work when I worry about things I can control and that is my attitude. When I keep that in line…

all i can say is there is nothing like being tested…Ugh

      James 1:2-4 (KJV)
      2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

I’m reminded that he who is faithful in little will be entrusted with much. I think it may not be thrilling, but we want to be the best and do the best wherever we find ourselves.
