Some time ago, I wrote about how our faith, according to Paul, can be shipwrecked but that I do not believe that means were rendered permanently useless. I believe that God uses that time – if we allow him – to help us grow and to teach us what we need to learn. Obviously, we can be obstinate and miss God’s lesson but that is our doing not his. I do, however, believe that we can, not only, shipwreck our dreams but abandon and lose our them and in the process lose out on the tremendous rewards God wants us to receive by tending to and nurturing those dreams.
The Bible tells us that there is a season for everything. Solomon, the wisest man this side of Jesus, is credited with having said that so – it must be true, right? Well, I happen to believe it and believe that it applies to our dreams.
If your dream is to be an athlete the window you have to live that out decreases every year. Depending on the sport or your willingness to use PEDs that window can close much faster. The life span of an average NFL running back is 3 to 5 years. Given the size of the league, the number of players on each team and that most teams only carry two to three backs you better be VERY good, stay healthy and be better than VERY good.
Time is limited. Our lives are like vapors. Here today burned like chafe the next. Since “chafe” is an old term, I understand many of you may not be able to relate to it so let me say it like this – you’re here today, tomorrow you’re Windows XP.
Aha! You understand what that means now huh?
It is so easy to let your dream control you, to let it become an idol and worship it rather than God who gave it to you in the first place. This is not good. It is equally bad to let your dream rot or turn sour.
Leave it alone too long and it becomes a puss filled, moldy, tarnished and festering tumor – whoa, I know the sixties were rough but…sorry about that – but you see where I am going now.
While I whole heatedly believe that we cannot do anything apart from God – I completely believe that He requires us to make some sort of effort in completing his will. Otherwise he could have just made a three person chess set and challenged Jesus and the Holy Spirit for Heavenly bragging rights – of course, I think they would have each known what the other was going to do.
Perhaps that’s where the idea for “free will” came from to begin with – hmmm.
So, whatever it is that you’re NOT doing – GO! Get off your butt and don’t let your dream die.

Hey Mick, I believe we give up on our dreams much too quickly. God gave us our dreams and most often we have to persist through the chaos to see results and begin to fulfill the dream the Lord has given us. Keep enduring. Lee, Thanks for stopping by glad you found me – hope you find more you like and I would love to hear your thoughts on those as well. If I told you that I was JUST praying today for more direction you’d likely think I was egging on the faith protion of what we both seems to accept as truth – but I was, in fact, sayng that prayer and God has used you to help me see clearly where my efforts – at least for now – need to be. thank you for the vote of confidence.
