I got this off the internets – thank you internets.
Ever had the Pizza Hut P’Zone? If not I am super sorry. It was a delicious masterpiece of pizza-y goodness. You can get a decent calzone from just about any pizza place but the P”Zone was a zone I could easily get into.
Other zones? Not so much.
Didn’t like the strike zone or the danger zone. Never been a fan of time zones, climate zones or “no gun” zones – but let’s not make this political.
All told – I like my little comfort zone and that’s where I prefer to stay.
Recently I have been informed that if I want to be a real, serious, working comedian – wait I have to be serious? – that I have to something that is not easy for anyone ESPECIALLY me.
Writing has never been a big deal for me. I can down and do it whenever I choose. There in lies the problem. It’s always been “whenever I Choose.” That has to be change number one. I have to decide to “choose” to write every day. for extended periods of time to develop material not just for comedy but also for the blog – another place where I have demonstrated my desire to write only on occasions where I made the choice.
If I want to be serious about comedy – there it is again – I can no longer choose to not write.
The funny thing is that when I start writing and get a couple ideas I can usually write for extended periods of time with out even thinking about it – it’s the rest of the time that I struggle.
Really – mostly I struggle with the getting started.
There were a coupe other things mentioned that will help me get where I want to go as a comedian but becoming a “serious” writer – what? – is what I really need to focus on.
So, how ’bout you? What’s the zone you need to get out of? Leave a comment and we can hold each other accountable.
Y’all keep the acorn spinnin’
