For too long, I have been hearing people that profess their faith in Christ, lamenting the fact that the world and specifically schools in the United States have descended into a near full blow state of chaos, since the prohibition of prayer in school was initiated in 1962.
I feel like in my life time, we did pray to start the day but I know at the time my heart wasn’t in it so I may be wrong about that but here’s the thing,
NO ONE CAN OR WILL STOP PRAYER, in school or anywhere else.
I contend that it never stopped or shouldn’t have.
Even non believers pray for help to pass a test or to not have to dress out, no homework, that the cute boy or girl will ask them out or say yes…
And before you say, “well, I’m a believer, just not in the God of the Bible,” then I am not talking to you.
“Oh, but Mick”, you say…, “oh, but YOU“ I say.
You, the parents and grandparents – COMPLIED!
And you complained!
But you never taught your kids that they can pray in their hearts and heads. They can pray at home about school…
God doesn’t need you to speak your prayers out loud – He knows our thoughts and even our words before they even come to mind…
Why would you think an all-powerful, all-knowing God would need to hear your voice.
Did it even occur to you that God allowed prayer to be removed from schools to force you, the Christian parents, to take responsibility for your own child’s discipleship?
It IS your responsibility, you know?
What this tell me is that more than a generation of the nations spiritual development was left to a God-less government.
You should ALL be ashamed!
I read posts, nearly every day on X and FB by people that seem astonished that we are where we are in the U.S. and all they want to do is blame the government.
Don’t get me wrong, the government has gone off the rails but to blame them for our failures as parents and Christ followers is beyond short sighted…it’s just plain dumb!
But, as with most things, I believe God has a prescription and as with most things related to God, it puts the emphasis where it belongs, squarely on the shoulders of the people that claim to follow him.
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
God is calling on “his people”, “called by his name.”
That is all Christ followers.
NOT the government, NOT the alphabet mafia, NOT a pro sports league or athlete.
HIS people call by HIS name.
Then look at what it says…
“… will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways…” (emphasis mine).
We MUST take These specific actions…
God has made it clear it is ON us to first make things right with him…
THEN he’ll do what only he can – forgive sin and heal our land.
There is NO question that things here in the United States, the whole planet really, are getting bad, it’s the worst I’ve seen in my 50 plus years but I believe that, even in the short term, it can be changed – but only by God.
I don’t know about you; I don’t know how much longer He’s gonna keep me here but I’d love to finish my days out with the peace of knowing He’s healed our land.
And it starts with the people in HIS house…
