God Loves YOU Not Your Sin

Posted: July 7, 2012 in Uncategorized
As near as I can tell, the only difference between me and Jonah lately – besides several thousand years – is that I have not had to spend any time in the belly of a “big fish” recently.
God gave me a subject for this blog several weeks ago and, just like Jonah, I have been avoiding writing it for fear of the repercussions.
Even as I sit here writing, I am being drawn away by my own trepidation, torn by my desire to deliver the message God has given me and the need of my flesh to not cause distension among the people I call friends.
But deep down, I know I have to please God and not men, “…For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him’ (Matthew 4:10 – NLT).”
Lately, I find myself concerned with the treatment of a certain group of people. By and large, I feel that homosexuals are not treated fairly or with the respect they deserve as creations of God by the very people who should be showing them the most love – Christians.
We, as Christ followers, do not do a good job – not even close – of following the example Jesus set when dealing with the lost.
If you believe that the Bible views homosexuality as a sin – and, for the record, I believe that it does – can you please explain to me how this sin is worse than ANY other sin?  James said, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all (James 2:10 – KJV).”
Paul made it crystal clear, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 – NIV).” When he says “all” he means every single human being that has ever lived is sinful in the eyes of God.
Notice he does not conclude that verse with, “especially the homosexuals”?
As I have said previously, God does not care what your particular sin is, he just wants you to accept his son and STOP sinning.
It seems to me that homosexuals are treated like outcasts because of this ONE sin, regardless of whatever else they do,  not unlike the lepers of Jesus’ time, but Christ, himself, was very clear that we are to, “…’Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39 – NIV).
Actually, that entire exchange bears repeating here – it is, after all the reason I began writing again. Jesus is questioned as to which is the “greatest” commandment. His response should be our clarion call:
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets (Matt 22: 36-40 –KJV)”.
In fact, the story of when Jesus is confronted at the well by the Pharisees concerning the woman caught in adultery is the perfect example of how God sees the sin of homosexuality against ANY other sin. Christ said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone! (John 8:7 – NIV).”
He is saying that God is the ONLY one that can judge a person’s heart or their sin. He is saying we all need to spend more time worried about our own lives, praying more, sinning less and spending less time, none in fact, telling someone they are sinning because they have a relationship with someone of the same sex.
Jesus talked about this too, “Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye (Matthew 7:5).”
As Christians it is NOT up to us to tell anyone how to live their life, who to love or who to marry – I believe that changes if they are already Christian, then we do have that “responsibility,” but it is simply not our place when it comes to the lost.
It IS our job to tell a dying world about the love of God and the sacrifice made by Christ and that HE is the ONLY way to get to Heaven.
Now, let me be completely clear. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin and I believe what the Bible teaches but ONLY God passes judgment on sin. Not me. Not you. Not the preacher at the mega-church.
God alone.
With that in mind, every Christian should be showing love and compassion to ALL sinners, just like every other sinner and not making opprobrious remarks about them. Lest we forget, we were once on the outside looking in as well.
God does not have any favorites among us.
How can we show favoritism to any one? Ever? Leave a comment below.
  1. […] authority over a man, that same sex relationships are against God’s will and therefore are sinful, I believe Jonah lived in the belly of fish for three days and I definitely believe that Jesus died and rose from the grave and is alive today […]

  2. […] is the same group that is all fired up to wipe homosexuals off the planet while ignoring the fact that God sees ALL our sin the EXACT same way – that we’re all […]
