The phrase “hind sight is 20/20” is a cliche for a reason. Not because it is used so much, but because it is true. I might be willing to go so far as to say hind sight is 20/10 or even 20/5 (continue going lower as long as you like).
My point is when we look back on situations the picture is usually crystal clear. We can see what God wanted us to have the faith to believe in the first place and realize His plan is always the right one. In Romans, Paul tells us, “…let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Rom 12:2 NLT).” (more…)

I believe that there are times when God wants and expects us to use our natural ability to think and act for ourselves in the course of trusting him.

For example, if you want to lose weight, I think you can, and should, pray for God to help you, however, YOU have to NOT eat as much and YOU have to go out and exercise. God is not going to take away your excess weight if you sit on your couch and pray, “Father, please remove my extra fat,” while scraping out the bottom of a Häagen Dazs container.
